THE DESIGN OF YOUR SHIRT'S COLLAR MATTERS

There are so many different kinds of collar style which reflect  the unique characteristic of a man's shirt. It can complement the features of the wearer’s face type.

Generally, round-faced guy needs a long (3-3.25 ins.) straight-pointed collar. Popularly a medium-pointed (2.5-2.75ins.)   collar is the most versatile style for all types of face.

Spread collar suits most for a long-faced guy and thin neck. The collar spread from 120 to 180 degrees (3- 3.5ins.) and was very popular in the 1930’s. It was called a Windsor collar as the Duke of Windsor was obsessed with this type of collar. This collar is most suitable for an classical thick tie. Match a double-breasted jacket in style.

The buttoned-down was originally made by Brooks Brothers who adopted it from the Polo shirt made for sports. It had been a trade mark of the Ivy League guys. It is a perfect match for a 3-buttoned jacket. However, it is not advisable for a fat face to wear a button-down.

The eyelet-collar is also called the Eton collar as it was an dressy uniform at Eton. It can be seen pointed or rounded at the collar tips.

The tab-collar was another contribution of the Duke of Windsor which actually anchors the tie in place. It evolves from the eyelet-collar, remain dressy with less fuss.
